Silent Hill 2 Remake is finally here. Some say it is a strong Game of the Year contender that could rival Metaphor: ReFantazio and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.
Now that the game’s released and everyone’s having fun roaming through the fog-covered streets of Silent Hill, one question remains: How many endings are there in this Remake?
Silent Hill 2 Remake features six classic endings and two new ones. They are Leave, Maria, In Water, Rebirth, UFO and Dog. The new ones are Bliss and Stillness.
The requirements have slightly changed, but anyone who played the original can still get an idea on how to get them.
Beware, there are heavy spoilers in this article.
Leave Ending
The Leave Ending is probably the easiest to get. This is guaranteed for players who casually breezed through the streets of Silent Hill without being thorough.
This ending only requires players to finish the game normally. Other factors include: Maintaining your Health to Green, Inspecting Mary's letter and photo, and listening to the full conversation in the long hallway before the final boss.
Another important thing to do is to keep ignoring Maria when she's around. Doing so will prevent you from getting the Maria Ending, so focus on clearing the game normally if you want to get this one.
This is considered by many as the Good Ending. but not a lot of fans agree with it.
Maria Ending
The Maria Ending is the exact opposite of Leave. It sees James returning to his vicious cycle of grief and despair.
This is the hardest to acquire and can't be done if you are not thorough with your playthrough.
To acquire this ending, you must talk to Maria in every chance you get. There are certain story parts that give you the option to talk to her, such as standing in front of the Baldwin Mansion, and talking to her as she sees her old dress from the original game.
Another thing to remember is you need to constantly check up on her in the Hospital and Labyrinth Area, as this will net you big points to secure this ending.
Other key factors include not listening to the full hallway conversation, picking the Ripe Apple when doing the Mirror Puzzle and using the Scarlet Egg Door.
These points will accumulate. You know you got the Maria Ending when you see Mary on the bed during the final level.
In Water Ending
The In Water Ending is a darker conclusion to the story. Some say it’s the canonical ending to James’ journey, as it involves him succumbing to his grief and trauma.
Getting this requires a bit of work, but not as tedious as the Maria Ending. The main takeaway here is we need to completely ignore James' health. Keeping his Health at a constant Red Bar for longer periods of time will add points to the In Water Ending.
That means it is encouraged not to use any recovery items all the time. Let James suffer, that's what the game implies.
It's also worth mentioning that inspecting Angela's Knife multiple times will accumulate points as well. Not listening to the hallway conversation and ignoring the letters and photos of Mary also helps.
The Rebirth Ending
The Rebirth Ending can only be unlocked during New Game+. That means players must finish the game first and pick from three of the original endings.
The Rebirth ending involves the occult and Lovecraftian gods that reportedly terrorized the town.
To acquire this ending, you must collect four items that spawn in your NG+ playthrough. These are the Crimson Ceremony Book, White Chrism, Obsidian Goblet and the Lost Memories note.
Dog & UFO Endings
The two joke endings, the 'Dog' and 'UFO' are still present in this Remake. These can be harder to acquire as players need to scour the entire town looking for items that only spawn in New Game+.
We don't want to spoil what happens on both endings, but we can tell you how to begin your journey.
In the Dog Ending, you need to collect two Key Parts that form a Dog Key. The first part of the Key can be found in the Pet Center next to Big Jay's Diner on Neely Street.
The other key is found on South Vale (West) after the Baldwin Mansion. It's found inside a dog house.
Combining both keys can be used to unlock the Observation Room Door in the final level of the game. This Ending completely removes the final boss fight and will end the story immediately after the special cutscene.
In the UFO Ending, players need to collect a Blue Gem found in South Vale (East). This is the beginning part of the game after getting the Radio.
The Blue Gem can be located next to the Pet Center, specifically in the Jeweller's shop. Simply break the glass window and you'll find it inside a chest.
The next step in getting the UFO Ending is to find four UFO hotspots across Silent Hill. They are separated into different sections throughout the game, with the first location found on the rooftop of Saul Street Apartments.
You know you're near a UFO spot when a weird alien sound FX will play. You only need to inspect your Blue Gem item in your inventory and watch it glow.
The next three locations are found in Rosewater Park, Toluca Lake, and Room 312 in the final level.
Two New Endings
As a special treat for this Remake, Bloober Team and Konami have included two new endings. The Stillness and Bliss Endings can only be unlocked on New Game+ as well. Trophy/Achievement hunters need not worry as both endings don't count for a 100% completion.
Getting the Bliss Ending requires players to interact with a safe in Pete's Bowl-O-Rama. Using the code 1887, you can acquire a special key to open a small chest in Brookhaven Hospital.
The Stillness Ending involves finding a Key of Sorrow in a green car on Wiltse Road. This is located at the beginning of the game, after meeting Angela in the cemetery.
Once the Key is acquired, you need to play the game normally until the final level. There's a safe found in the Otherworld version of the Manager's Office. Using the code 314 will unlock it and reward you with the Toluca Postcard.
Unlike the Dog and UFO endings that abruptly end the game, both new endings can only be triggered after beating the final boss.
Silent Hill 2 Remake is a faithful reimagining of the original with little to no changes in its story. The only major additions are the special two endings and reworked boss fights.
