While toiling away at your workbench in Starfield, you might come across one of the few crafting recipes that call for chlorosilanes. This resource’s ‘uncommon’ rarity means you shouldn’t find it particularly difficult to locate during your galactic adventures. Still, you may be stuck on where to start looking. Here are all our tips on how to get chlorosilanes in Starfield.
There’s a remote chance that you’ll find chlorosilanes while searching containers around the game world. It’s far from a reliable method though. You’re better off harkening back to your protagonist’s time at Argos Extractors by extracting this precious commodity directly from the source. If you value your time more than your credits, you can instead purchase chlorosilanes from select merchants.

Mining chlorosilanes in Starfield
Chlorosilanes (H3SiCl) is a chlorine compound. Because of this, the presence of chlorine in an area suggests there’s a chlorosilanes source nearby. To help, here’s a list of planets and moons where you can easily mine chlorosilanes:
- Jemison (Alpha Centauri system)
- Gagarin (Alpha Centauri)
- Mars (Sol system)
- Earth (Sol system)
- Europa (Sol system)
- Volii Epsilon (Volii system)
- Sumati (Narion system)
- Dalvik (Narion system)
- Altair IV B (Altair system)
Once you make your landing, use your hand scanner (LB/F) to survey the area. You should eventually find a mound called a chlorosilanes seep. You’ll need to turn off your hand scanner and interact with the seep by pressing A or E. As standard, this produces two units of chlorosilanes at a time. Once a seep is depleted, you’ll need to wait for the supply to replenish before mining again.
Farming chlorosilanes in Starfield
Manually collecting resources can be a tedious experience. Luckily, there is a way to automate the process. To start, go into your hand scanner and then press X/R to place an outpost beacon in proximity of a chlorosilanes seep. Close to your newly established outpost, set up a chlorosilanes extractor. The extractor can’t be placed directly on the seep but instead needs to be above a vein.
As the vein is underground, you won’t have a clear indication of its exact location. However, while dragging the extractor around the perimeter of the seep, you’ll see when you’ve hit the vein when the extractor stops glowing red. The extractor needs at least 5 units of energy to function so make sure you include a power source or two in your outpost as well.
This method accumulates plenty of chlorosilanes for you while you’re away doing more exciting things like dogfighting or wooing your companions. You do need to be aware of the extractor’s limited storage capacity though. To bypass this, set up a transfer container and link it to your extractor. This will allow you to collect your bounty without ever having to leave your ship.
