God of War Ragnarok is out everywhere now and it's a special game. As we said in our review, it's the perfect sequel. If you've reached the end already, you may be wondering if there's going to be a God of War 3.
While a third God of War game hasn't been confirmed officially, anyone who's finished the game will know that it's fairly easy to speculate. We'll go over what's possible below.
If you're after more on God of War Ragnarok, we also have guide on the best runic attacks to use, who the voice actors in the game are, and how to parry successfully.
Will there be a God of War 3 after Ragnarok?
Before we get into our speculation, it's worth noting that there will be heavy spoilers for the end of God of War Ragnarok below. If you haven't beaten the game yet, don't read any further.
In short, we'd be shocked if there wasn't a God of War 3 released sometime in the future. Of course, Sony Santa Monica hasn't announced anything, and will be focused on Ragnarok's launch. If the new game does well though, and initial signs are promising, they'll likely want to continue the series.
Following the end of Ragnarok, there's a few different directions that a God of War 3 could go in. However, we'd expect a third game in the series to really change things up.
It's certainly possible that Sony Santa Monica continue with the similar structure, with Kratos heading out into the nine realms with Freya once more to save it from another threat. We'd be surprised if this was the direction a God of War 3 went, however.
It is also possible that Kratos and Atreus are reunited some way, to head out on another adventure in another world. Again, we think that's unlikely following the separation that happened at the end of Ragnarok.
What we'd love to see is a God of War 3 that completely leaves Kratos behind. Ragnarok proved that playing as Atreus was brilliant, and him heading off on his own quest at the end would be the perfect excuse to go with him.
Whatever he's up to, maybe with Angrboda by his side, would make for a great third part of this series.
Saying all of that, Sony Santa Monica are infinitely better placed that me to come up with cool idea for what to do next with God of War. As soon as we hear something more about a potential God of War 3, we'll be sure to keep you updated.
