Halo Infinite Async Compute is there to make life easier for your GPU, but it might be causing you some unexpected problems. Many players, mainly those with AMD units, are reporting an increase in Halo Infinite crashes with Async Compute. If that's you, the benefits of turning it off far outweigh those of keeping it activated. Here's how to deal with it.
What is Async Compute in Halo Infinite?
Asynch Compute is supposed to help resolve potential screen tearing and other issues by essentially letting your GPU multitask. In theory, it's a good thing, and it might help boost your computer's performance.
However, Halo Infinite's Async Compute is, for now, running into issues with certain graphics cards, primarily the AMD Radeon RX 500. It's one of the known issues 343 is contending with at the moment and will likely have it fixed by the time the full game launches on December 8.
How to Turn Off Async Compute in Halo Infinite
Turning off Async Compute just requires a quick trip to the settings menu.
- Press F1 or click the gear icon in the screen's bottom right corner
- Navigate to the "Video" tab
- Scroll down in the "Display" group until you find Async Compute
- Click the box to uncheck it
And that's it. So far, there's no report of any significant decrease in performance from having the feature turned off.
