Early reviews are coming in for Halo's upcoming TV series on Paramount+ but elsewhere, we've seen some contentious choices like Cortana's redesign. Now, Master Chief actor Pablo Schreiber has responded to fan concerns about John-117 removing his helmet.
Speaking to TechRadar in a recent interview, Schreiber confirmed that while he respects fan opinions, he doesn't agree this is bad. He stated:
"One thing I learned very early on is that there's as many different opinions in the Halo universe as there are Halo fans. So obviously, you're not going to be able to please everybody. But what I would say is that we are tailoring an entertainment experience that's tailored to the medium that it's for."
Halo TV Series: Pablo Schreiber Calls Master Chief Face Reveal "The Only Choice"
Elaborating further, Schreiber then calls the face reveal decision "the only choice in long form storytelling", telling TechRadar:
"I'm sorry, but it's the only choice for long form storytelling in television. What I would say to anybody who disagrees with that, I totally respect that opinion. But it's a pretty basic place to start when you're talking about making a television show of quality."
It's worth remembering that Halo's TV series exists in a separate timeline to the games, though it'll largely remain rooted to the established canon. It's not the first time we've seen John-117's face either thanks to Halo: The Fall of Reach, albeit as a child. Halo launches on Paramount+ on March 24, 2022.
