The author has cut a controversial figure in recent months following accusations of transphobic remarks on her Twitter account.

Her most recent book is also said to portray transgender people negatively and as villains of the piece.

In the weeks following, stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Eddie Redmayne have rallied to the support of the transgender community.

Since being confirmed at the PlayStation 5 event this week, many fans of the franchise have expressed unease at supporting the game despite her comments, while also wanting to support the developers that have worked on it.

While it was revealed at Sony's event, the game will also come to other platforms when it launches next year. Find out more here.

The game is set in the 1800s, long before both the main Harry Potter timeline and its pseudo-prequel series Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

The game will feature an open-world, with classes to attend, spells to learn, and creatures to meet.

It also allows for players to choose whether to use their powers for good or more nefarious means.

Sony's event was not only a chance to reveal the company's PS5 console's price and release date, but also show off some of the games coming to the platform between now and Holiday 2020.

Not only did we get confirmation that Final Fantasy 16 will be a PlayStation console exclusive, but we also got a first tease for God of War: Ragnarok.
