When does Need for Speed Unbound release?
At the moment, we haven't gotten an official release date from EA about Need for Speed Unbound, but we have the next best thing. According to Japanese website Neowing, who listed the game for sale on the site, states a release date of December 12, 2022. We are expecting that there will be a confirmation of this in an official announcement on October 6, 2022.
What platforms will Need for Speed Unbound be on?
For the moment, we don't have the exact listing of what platforms the game will be on. We did see though on the Neowing listing that the game that there would be a physical edition for PS5 only. There's a few things that we could gleam from this.
First off, this could mean that EA is choosing to favor the Playstation over Xbox in terms of physical media. The second thing we could gleam from this is is that this game is going to be current gen only, meaning that the game isn't being developed for the PS4, or Xbox One. We also don't know if there's going to be a PC version of the game just yet, but hopefully we will get more answers in tomorrow's announcement.
Need for Speed cars
Looking at some of the leaked images from the Neowing posting, we get a glimpse of some of the cars and art style of the game. The art direction first off is taking more of an animated, anime styling approach. It also looks like we are headed back to the streets, as we can see the intricate decal work and underglow on these vehicles.
From the cars persepective, we do see a few tuners as well as what appears to be a Mercedes G Class SUV. It looks like from what we can tell, we're getting what appears to be an old Skyline R34 possibly, as well as a Civic or Integra. There's also the Mercedes 190-E as well being shown. These are the only ones that we have so far, but we should see more information soon on additional cars.
Who is developing Need for Speed Unbound?
The developers of Need for Speed Unbound is Criterion Games. This is a return to form for the game, as Criterion made some of the most iconic Need for Speed games in the franchise's history, namely Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and Need for Speed: Most Wanted.
While they had been previously supporting DICE on non-racing titles, the studio did make the 2018 remaster of Burnout Paradise and the 2020 remaster of Hot Pursuit. That being said, it's safe to say that the game is in good hands, and we're excited to see what's revealed.
