Injustice 3, Warner Bros DC Comics smash-up, has been rumoured to be in the works for a while. We know for instance NetherRealm Studios was hiring for next-gen instalments of both of the studio's big two fighting game franchises. It's hard to believe how long has passed since Injustice 2 released in 2019, but with Mortal Kombat 11 no longer being supported by NetherRealm, it leaves an opening for more DC Comics-inspired entries. If like us you're keen to know what is coming next, here's everything we know about a potential superpowered sequel.

A new Mortal Kombat 12 game has possibly been leaked, or at least alluded to by a NetherRealm Studios Producer. Senior production manager Jonathan Andersen posted on Twitter a photo of his desk, which has since been deleted.
That desk photo showed some artwork for their titles like Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, and Injustice 2. However, what caught the attention of fans was the monitor on his desk, where part of a file named "MK12_Mast" was seen.
Though not clear, it does seem to be a deliberate move to drum up hype, as we can't imagine anyone being that clumsy. But more importantly, what does this mean for Injustice 3?
hat It was expected that the DC-Comics fighter would be the next game from the team, but it's looking increasingly likely that NetherRealm will release another Mortal Kombat game following their successful launch of Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019.

Creative Director Ed Boon put out a tweet with a fake tease for Injustice, involving Keanu Reeves. While he followed that up with another tweet confirming this is a joke, it's left fans wondering what could've been.

Speaking on a new Giant Bomb video, journalist Jeff Grubb has suggested that issues relating to WB Games has led to NetherRealm changing projects.
Essentially, the implication is that NetherRealm has ditched plans for Injustice 3 to focus on Mortal Kombat 12 as the Studio's next project.
“It lines up with the reality and it lines up with what I’ve heard, where Mortal Kombat 12 would make the most sense because that’s a game they know will make money, it will sell well… Mortal Kombat 11 was great, it’s doing well, but if you come out with Mortal Kombat 12 it will also sell and do well,” Grubb said speaking on the Giant Bomb.
“At the same time, you don’t have to use any of these Batman or Superman characters that might be tied up in licensing if you try to get rid of NetherRealm or sell it to whoever.”

NetherRealm has announced it's ended Mortal Kombat 11 support to focus on a new game. There's no indication that might be Injustice 3 - but there's no indication it isn't.
Injustice 3 Release Date
NetherRealm Studios is yet to formally announce the game, but that's not to say it's not being talked about. In an interview with Gamespot back in April, Creative Director Ed Boon noted that the team is working on something secret.
It's hard to tell the timing because we don't have a launch date that we've picked for our next game, and there are so many factors involved with the transition to the next consoles.
What Platforms Will Injustice 3 Release On?
As per that quote, it would be fair to assume that the game is likely to be next-gen only if it does come out. We'd also expect it to come to PC, although Nintendo Switch is anyone's guess. While Mortal Kombat 11 did come to the Nintendo Switch platform, it arguably didn't fare as well there performance-wise as the other versions. But at least Switch is being supported and hopefully whatever NetherRealm release next they'll at least have the past experience to help inform their development efforts.
Injustice 3 Roster
Of course, Injustice is all about fighting DC's finest heroes and worst villains in iconic stages, and you can expect the majority of the second game's roster to return.
Justice League stalwarts like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman seem likely, as well as baddies like Lex Luthor, Catwoman, The Joker and Harley Quinn.
Rumours have suggested that characters from Watchmen could arrive, but whether that's true is anyone's guess.
Still, considering the DLC for Injustice 2 included the likes of Sub-Zero and Raiden from Mortal Kombat and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it's really anyone's guess.
