Initially announced at Riot Games' 10th Anniversary celebrations for League of Legends, Arcane's first look was recently revealed during Netflix Geeked Week.
Following that, the Executive Producer of Arcane, Christian Linke, and Co-Creator, Alex Yee presented the first Dev Diary for the upcoming Netflix anime series.
Arcane Dev Diary
Talking about the story that the developers are trying to portray in Arcane, Christian spoke at length about various aspects of the League of Legends universe.
Talking about the setting of Arcane, Christian said,
"Arcane is set in Piltover and Zaun and will explore the lives of the many champions who live there, including Jinx and Vi,"
Additionally, Christian also confirmed that Jinx and Vi are indeed sisters like many in the community had guessed.
Explaining further why the story of Arcane will revolve around Jinx and Vi, Christian added,
"Jinx and Vi are two characters that Alex and I actually worked on during their creation some 10 years ago, and even back then we could tell that they’re really special. They’ve always been fan-favorites, and when we were approaching this idea and had to think about which characters we’d really want to sink our teeth into, it was pretty obvious to us. These two sisters, have this very troubled relationship, and couldn’t be more different from each other."
The developers also went on to confirm that the entire series will witness a variety of weapons from the League of Legends universe. These weapons include:
- Rocket Launchers;
- Grenades that have teeth; and
- Boxing gloves that are the size of small cars.
Arcane's Animation Team
The Dev Diary for Arcane also confirmed the animation team that Riot Games is working closely with to execute the Netflix Anime adaption is Fortiche. The studio based in Paris has previously worked on official League of Legends Videos such as "Get Jinxed," "Rise," and "Pop/Stars."
The Dev Diary also confirmed that Arcane will depict a similar style of animation as can be seen in the aforementioned videos created by Fortiche.
What to expect from Arcane
Talking about the goal that the entire team has for the Netflix anime adaptation, Christian said,
"We’ll dive deeply into the stories and relationships, and struggles of all these characters and find out what their lives look like, what made them who they are today -- and for those people who aren’t really familiar with our game we want to show them why we’ve stuck with them for over a decade now and why we love them so much."
Christian also mentioned that with the world of Runeterra having various factions and champions, Arcane is only a small slice and simply the beginning "of all the storytelling opportunities" that Riot Games is working on.
