In any multiplayer online game, there is always a chance of cheaters, whether it's aim assist or using other tech to give someone an advantage.

After a month of release, the Marvel Rivals devs noticed some things that could be considered cheating in the game, such as using a keyboard and mouse on the console.

Using Keyboard and Mouse on Console for Marvel Rivals

In a recent announcement from Marvel Rivals, they confirmed that using a keyboard and mouse on the console could result in a temporary or permanent suspension from the game. The statement reads:

“We define keyboard and mouse adapters as the use of software or hardware to mimic controller inputs with a keyboard and mouse. This method can grant an unfair edge in competitive play, for example, harnessing high sensitivity with the aim-assist features.”

There are currently detection tools in the game for the developers to catch anyone who has decided to use the setup. For anyone who has played first-person shooters on PC and console, there is a difference in control when it comes to the keyboard/mouse set-up, and having that kind of precision plus aim-assist at the console platform would be a huge advantage for even the most novice players.

Some adapters that help make the set-up that NetEase has listed include the XIM series, Cronus Zen series, Titan Two series, KayMander series, and Brook Sniper series, plus any other kind of emulation that will try to have a mouse mimic a controller will be considered an adapter.

The statement ends: “Penalties for users of keyboard and mouse adapters may include temporary or permanent account suspensions, removal from leaderboards, or other punishments depending on the circumstances.”

What’s Been Fixed So Far?

The controller/mouse/keyboard set-up issue is only one of several fixes that NetEase has applied to Marvel Rivals since it launched. Season 1 of the game saw the disabling of several mods, and it’s said that using them in-game could also result in a suspension.

Several buffs and nerfs have also been given to specific heroes; granted, this should be considered common as the hero roster grows, as every new entry will result in a shift in the balance that not even the developers can always predict before launching a character.

Like Overwatch, Rivals has been called to add a role queue to give players more balanced games. However, the devs have been adamant about not incorporating that into their hero shooter. At best, fans are asking them to stop making Duelists for now and add more Vanguards and Strategists (who nobody seems to want to play).

The great thing about Rivals is that Overwatch has done a lot of their homework for them, so they just have to figure out how Blizzard has been dealing with their hero shooter and see how they can improve for their own game. While role queue had admittedly resulted in more balanced teams, it did come with the sacrifice of giving players less freedom to play who they wanted.

Marvel Rivals is now available for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5.
