Despite its success at the box office, Marvel Studios is known to fumble from time to time, and many people consider the handling of the super robot Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron a major misstep.
However, that hasn’t stopped creatives from trying to do something interesting with the character over the years. He was a major antagonist in the first season of the animated What If…? series, and word has it that he will be a playable hero in the recently launched Marvel Rivals.
Ultron’s Possible Abilities in Marvel Rivals
As per @RivalsLeaks on Twitter, Ultron will be an incoming support character added to the game down the line. No game model has been revealed, but there is some character art.
Ultron is expected to be a strategist (which is Rivals’ word for healer/support), and his kit mostly consists of being able to summon drones that can either harm enemies or heal allies. He also can fly, making him a mobile hero almost at the same level as Iron Man.
As for Ultron’s abilities, there are said to be:
Primary Fire – Encephalo-Ray – Ultron releases a burning energy beam
Secondary Fire – Dynamic Flight – Fly quickly in the direction that Ultron is moving, then enter free-flight mode.
Passive – Algorithm Correction – Hold [jump] to fall slowly.
E – Imperative: Firewall – Ultron summons drones to himself, and they will grant bonus health to any ally within range. The drones will center on Ultron as well as any ally that is marked with Imperative: Patch.
LShift – Imperative: Patch – Ultron commands a drone that will follow an ally. The drone will heal every teammate in its radius, focusing mostly on the targeted ally.
Ultimate – Rage of Ultron – Summon Ultron drones to fire Encaphalo-Rays—this will either damage enemies or heal allies.
Take note: This is only a leak for now, so it's possible that Ultron's kit will change when he's officially revealed—if he's even officially revealed at all.
No Strings On Me
Ultron is the big bad AI of the Marvel Universe, and should he have succeeded in Age of Ultron, he would have cemented himself as one of the most powerful beings in the Multiverse (as per What If…?).
It’s not exactly what the backstory of this game’s Ultron will be, but comic readers know that he was originally the creation of Hank Pym (Ant-Man) and not Tony Stark. Ultron, a metal man that flies around, is pretty visually similar to Iron Man. Imagine the chaos he could unleash if he could shrink or grow gigantic.
As of now, Ultron hasn’t been officially announced for the game, but some fans think he will be dropping alongside several other leaked heroes, including members of the Fantastic Four and Blade. With Ultron expected to play a major part in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Vision series, maybe there are plans to drop him around the time of that series premiere so they can ride on the hype for the Ultron character.
Until we get an official tease or announcement, all fans can do is guess.
Ultron has not been officially announced for the game, but Marvel Rivals is now available for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5.
