Gfinity Reviews: SCUF ONE

Founded in 2010, SCUF Gaming have pioneered a new generation of video game accessories, catered towards the most dedicated and professional individuals. Through several revolutionary and ground-breaking technological advancements, SCUF successfully identified and eliminated a void within the hardware limitations of console gaming, specifically the universal composition of gaming controllers.

After significant research and development, SCUF Gaming patented and unveiled the iconic SCUF Controller, designed to aid devoted members of the First Person Shooter (FPS) genre. As stated by SCUF themselves, “every feature of the controller is designed to increase performance and match players’ reflexes, allowing them to achieve greater accuracy, faster movement and decreased delay caused by the controllers’ own limitations. The SCUF Controller allows players to finally play at their full potential – and all without cheating!

Having owned a SCUF Controller for the Xbox 360, I was intrigued to discover whether the people at SCUF Gaming could improve upon an already brilliant controller with the SCUF ONE – and somehow they have managed to do it! With the additions of fully remappable paddles and custom-built analogue sticks, SCUF have once again developed the industry’s leading controller.

New Paddle Design

Unlike the previous generation of controllers, the SCUF ONE has welcomed the introduction of "sidewinder paddles", rather than the formerly popular straight versions. As these new paddles are constructed at a slight angle, they provide the controller with an increased ergonomic feel, while also reducing their likelihood to break.

Much like the Xbox 360 SCUF, you can also choose between the standard array of 2 paddles or the advanced hybrid option of 4. Personally, I opted for a two paddle configuration, with my left paddle operating as the A button (for easily executed jumps on Advanced Warfare), while my right paddle serves as B, (making drop-shotting a lot easier).

So far, the addition of these paddles have improved my gameplay significantly, as they allow me to keep my thumbs on the analogue sticks, improving my accuracy within gunfights, while also granting me free ability to jump/drop at my own will. Due to the nature of the movement mechanics of AW, SCUF Paddles are a definite necessity for those who want to take their game to the next level.

Electro-Magnetic Remapping

As well as this, SCUF have also announced their new and innovative EMR (Electro-Magnetic Remapping) technology within the SCUF One. This optimal feature provides users with “on-the-fly remapping capabilities for the paddles. Simply place your SCUF Mag (magnetic) Key onto the back of the controller and reprogram your paddles by simultaneously holding the face button / function and outside paddle you wish to remap. Never before has a SCUF® controller been so flexible and easy to remap, so you can play any game in a way that suits your play style!”.

Although I personally didn’t include the EMR option within my SCUF One controller, this new feature is definitely one worth considering, especially if you are unsure about the ideal configuration for Advanced Warfare. Ultimately, this progress in technological advancements simply epitomises the forward thinking SCUF Gaming are renowned for.

SCUF Grip

As with the Xbox 360 controller, you are also presented with the opportunity to include an additional ‘grip’ texture upon the handles of the device, in order to improve your grasp of the controller. Within the SCUF ONE, it is also possible to encompass the inside of the controller with ‘SCUF Grip’ and/or ‘Pro Grip’ on the detachable handles on the outside.

Upon mine, I chose to have Pro Grip all over the back and I must say I am extremely impressed. - It's brilliant for keeping a firm hold of you controller, even when your hands get a bit sweaty!

Custom Sticks

One of the several new features implemented by SCUF for the Xbox One addition of their controller can be seen through the inclusion of customisable analogue sticks. You are now able to select the length, style and colour of your thumb sticks.

Although seemingly pointless, the configurations of one’s analogue stick can in fact play a huge rule within their gameplay. For example, several players opt for longer analogue sticks, in order to improve their accuracy.

I myself was sceptical of this, however, since selecting a slightly taller right thumb stick, I have noticed a significant development in my aim over my opponents.

Trigger Stops

Although the SCUF ONE triggers themselves still operate in the same fashion as the Xbox 360 versions, with user’s able to tune their trigger movements to an optimum position, previously, the SCUF patented internal adjustable hair trigger and trigger stops mechanisms were visibly attached to the bottom of the Xbox 360 triggers. However within the SCUF ONE, they are now concealed within the detachable handles, making the controller a lot more aseptically pleasing.

Used by the professionals

Due to their professionalism and technical advancements, SCUF controllers have become increasingly popular within the competitive community, with a reported 85% of professional Call of Duty and Halo players taking full advantage of their benefits.

Approved by the vast majority of major tournament hosts, SCUF Gaming have grown into one of the industry’s most influential and desired brands. With a plethora of high profile figureheads and organisations endorsing their products, purchasing a SCUF controller is one of the easiest and most popular ways to support your favourite teams, with some players even offering a neat discount code.

Whether you are just a casual gamer or you are looking to compete, the SCUF One controller is the ideal controller for you. With so many different variations of paddles, stick lengths and colours, the possibilities are endless for you to create the perfect controller of your dreams!
