Oculus VR have officially announced that the consumer release date for their Oculus Rift VR Headset is set in stone for Q1 of 2016, with pre-orders opening up later this year. While there isn't a full date pinned down yet, we can certainly expect to hear more on the subject in the near future.
In a statement released on their blog, Oculus said:
“Today, we’re incredibly excited to announce that the Oculus Rift will be shipping to consumers in Q1 2016, with pre-orders later this year. The Rift delivers on the dream of consumer VR with compelling content, a full ecosystem, and a fully-integrated hardware/software tech stack designed specifically for virtual reality. It’s a system designed by a team of extremely passionate gamers, developers, and engineers to reimagine what gaming can be.”
Oculus also stated that the Rift has an “improved tracking system”, a “highly defined industrial design” and “upgraded ergonomics” that will allow it to be used more naturally for extended periods of time.
They also announced that more details would be released in the upcoming weeks regarding “hardware, software, input, and many of our unannounced made-for VR games and experiences coming to the rift.”
Expect the Oculus Rift to feature in the news once again in the near future, and for it to feature in some form at next month's E3.
