The new Call of Duty title for 2019 has been revealed as ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’. Fans around the world were elated at the reveal, as Infinity Ward would be going back to their roots.
There was a LOT of juicy intel that dropped, so let’s recap everything that we know about it so far.
Launch Date & Console Information
The release date for the game is set for the 25th October 2019 on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC with cross-console play being enabled between all three.
The PC version of the game will be available exclusively on Blizzard’s battle.net. and support Nvidia's RTX technology.
As it stands, based off of advertisements from Sony, PlayStation will still be the exclusive partner for the new title. However, this has not been confirmed from Activision. We could see something similar to this past year in which PlayStation receives content a week before other platforms.

Brand New Engine
The new game will utilise a brand-new engine, which will feature an immersive photo realistic experience.
Infinity Ward will also be sharing this new engine with other Call of Duty teams, including Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software.
A New Modern Warfare Timeline
This is a new story with a completely new arc; not a prequel or a sequel. Infinity Ward Studio Narrative Director Taylor Kurosaki explained that they did not want this year’s game to be restricted to that timeline and the story the original trilogy had. They wanted the game to be realistic, authentic and gritty. They did not feel this was possible with the original trilogy.
Returning Characters
Despite a new story unfolding, we will see familiar faces from the original trilogy such as Captain Price. It just wouldn’t be a Modern Warfare game without one of the most iconic characters being present, would it? At the end of the reveal trailer, a conversation between a man (presumably Price) and a woman is heard. The woman asks: “Who is your team?” with the man replying, “Some old comrades”. This could be a possible nod to other iconic characters from the trilogy such as Soap MacTavish, Gaz or even Ghost.
Campaign Details
A selection of individuals saw the campaign first-hand with a few missions on show; this campaign is set at the same time the game is launched (October 2019).
Two missions were confirmed, one of which was in London during a Navy Seal Raid and a Flashback Mission.
The London based mission features an exploding car initiated by a terrorist group, where the SEAL team need to find the suspects.
The second mission features a flashback, where we are taken through a story on how two rebel fighters became what they are today – this is important as they connect with Captain Price in the story.
There are lots of details about the campaign and you can read more about them on the CharlieIntel.com website.
It was also announced that you will get to play the campaign from multiple perspectives including an Arab soldier.
This will be the most realistic and brutal campaign to date in the Call of Duty franchise.
Co-Op
“Squad-up and play cooperatively in a collection of elite operations accessible to all skill levels.”
Despite the Activision press release only describing this as ‘new cooperative gameplay’, it sounds very much like spec ops; which featured in Modern Warfare 2 and 3, will be in this new title. As it stands, there is no zombies experience.
DLC & Season Pass
Activision will be making significant changes to the DLC model going forward with no season pass for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
In a statement from Infinity Ward they said:
“We’re eliminating the traditional season pass, so that we can deliver more free maps and content as well as post-launch events to all players. This is just the beginning – there’s much more to come.”
This is huge news for the community as it should mean they are no longer split between what maps they have available. It also means a much fresher map pool for esports in the next competitive year.
Unified Gameplay Experience
The new game focuses on a unified experience across all modes. Progression with guns will be reflected across campaign, multiplayer and co-op experiences.
Operators
Some editions of the game feature operator packs. A lot of speculation would lead to believe these are replacing ‘specialists’ from Black Ops 4, however this isn’t the case. Operators do not have special abilities that affect gameplay, but offer their own backstory, nationality, character dialogue, character skins and cosmetic customisation options.
Confirmed Weapons
Some of the weapons we picked out from the trailer, although not confirmed, are as follows:
- M4
- MP5
- Famas
- Glock 18
- Desert Eagle
- AK74u
We will update accordingly as new information becomes available!
