Since the release of Call of Duty: Mobile and more recently, Call of Duty: Warzone, questions have been raised surrounding the possibility of a fully-fledged Call of Duty game being released as a free-to-play title in the not too distant future - particularly with COD 2020.
Given the successes of both COD Mobile and Warzone, a free game filled with the traditional campaign and multiplayer experiences players have come to expect could be a viable alternative to an annual release that players have to pay for.
Here are three reasons why future CoD titles will be free for everyone in the future.
1) Money Talks
There is no bigger factor for Activision Blizzard than how much money a game generates. It was recently revealed that CoD: Mobile made a total exceeding $325 million in total revenue along with over 250 million downloads.
Generating such a large amount of money from a game that is completely free to download is a phenomenal achievement and should be something that should be looked into for the main Call of Duty title.
A free CoD title has the potential to be an incredible success. Opening up the full Call of Duty experience to everyone has the potential to send the franchise to even higher heights.
2) Warzone
The release of Call of Duty: Warzone was the first free-to-play Call of Duty experience to be released on consoles and judging by the tens of millions of players that have dropped into Verdansk, free Call of Duty on consoles has been a resounding success, so why not capitalise on its success and release a complete title for everyone to play.
Warzone is a prime example of how successful a free Call of Duty title could be. It’s only a matter of time when it comes around rather than if it will happen.
3) Free for Everyone
Throughout the Modern Warfare game cycle, Activision has hosted free multiplayer weekends to enable players to get players a small taste of the full Modern Warfare experience.
According to the publisher, it has led to plenty of players buying the full game after participating in a free multiplayer weekend. Rather than adding free weekends, why not make the game completely free for everyone?
This move would make plenty of sense considering the successes of other titles in the franchise and its rivals.
The trend of free-to-play games releasing doesn’t appear to be slowing down and as more publishers begin to rake in millions although the game is free of charge, it’s about time Activision continued with the momentum built from Warzone and CoD: Mobile and releasing a full-blown Call of Duty title that everyone can enjoy.
