CWL Atlanta - Group C Predictions

CWL Atlanta - Group C Predictions

Taking place at the Georgia World Congress Centre from February 10th–12th, CWL Atlanta is the first international Call of Duty event on Infinite Warfare. Over 170 teams are set to compete for a share of the $200,000 prize pool and nearly 100,000 Pro Points.

With the importance of Pro Points higher than ever, Atlanta should be able to give us a benchmark of how close the competition really is. Here, I’ll be looking at group C.

Cloud 9

Aches | Lacefield | Ricky | Assault

Cloud 9 are heading into Atlanta with the same roster which took down OpTic Gaming at CoD XP last year. Under the leadership of world champion Patrick “Aches” Price, the team went on to place second at MLG Vegas, losing to Rise Nation in the finals. Cloud 9 impressed from the outset, taking down FaZe, Allegiance and Elevate on the way to the finals.

Thanks to solid performances in the online 2K tournaments, their form has continued since Vegas and as a result, they should be considered as one of the favourites to take home the top spot at the event.

Player to Watch: Aches

Elevate

Reedy | Zed | Watson | Seany

The Elevate roster looked impressive at CWL London, finishing third, only behind Splyce and Orbit. In addition to this, they recently had a successful run through the Open Bracket at MLG Vegas and were able to defeat Black Ops 3 world champions, Team EnVyUs to finish second in the pools.

The recent buff to the ERAD should favour Seany especially. His aggressive play-style and phenomenal reaction times could be the key to Elevate’s success in Atlanta.

Player to Watch: Seany

Luminosity

Saints | Classic | Octane | Slacked

On paper, Luminosity Gaming have a seriously talented roster. The team placed top six at MLG Vegas and only lost twice to Allegiance and Rise Nation. However, poor placements in the online 2k tournaments has seen Luminosity slip down to eight in the Pro Points standings, so a good placement could be the catalyst for them to begin their ascent of the ladder.

Player to Watch: Octane

Team 3G

Qwiker | Niall | Weeman | Zerg

Team 3G were the only team able to defeat Orbit at CWL London. Despite this result and the fact that they also topped their group, Qwiker and Co. only managed to secure a top six placement at the event.

As a result, Atlanta will be a real test for this team, as none of the players have ever competed in pool play at an MLG event before. The event will be a steep learning curve for these young players but if they’re able to walk away with some Pro Points, it’s more than likely that we’ll see them back in pool play in future events.

Player to Watch: Qwiker

Predictions

1st: Cloud 9 3-0

2nd: Luminosity 2-1

3rd: Elevate 1-2

4th: Team 3G 0-3

As much as I'd like to see Team 3G make an impact in Group C, I can't see them beating their opposition. Cloud 9 are serious contenders for the title after finishing second at MLG Vegas. I can see them taking the top spot in the group with ease.

As for the second seed, it's a close call between Elevate and Luminosity but I'm going with LG on this occasion. I think Luminosity have the potential to cause a real upset at this event.
