Season One of post-launch Modern Warfare content has continued longer than many people have expected. Now ending on February 11th, attention has moved towards the launch the second season of content, despite a lot of new content arriving in Modern Warfare in its final weeks.
One of the requests from the competitive Call of Duty community, in particular, is the addition of a ranked playlist. This playlist will feature maps, game modes and rules that the Call of Duty League (CDL) will use throughout the duration of the season.
In this article, we take a look at why a ranked playlist is needed in Modern Warfare and why it should be added as part of the release of season two.

The Launch of the CDL
On January 24th, the inaugural CDL season got underway at the launch event in Minnesota. All 12 of the new franchise teams will be competing in an offline environment for the very first time to mark the launch of a brand-new era of Call of Duty esports.
It has been revealed that cosmetic packs for each of the franchises will be added to the game on January 24th but there is still no mention of whether a competitive playlist will be arriving on Modern Warfare.
The start of a new season of content and the launch of the new competitive league would be the perfect time to give the competitive scene a playlist for them!

3 Months In & Still No Sign
If we look at Black Ops 4, around three months into the game cycle is when Treyarch introduced a competitive playlist into its game so can we expect a ranked playlist in Modern Warfare anytime soon?
Judging off this now would be the most logical time to add a ranked playlist as part of the second season of post-launch content.
Infinity Ward has added numerous playlists into the game since launch so why no ranked playlist? Something that a lot of games have on launch as opposed to months down the line.
Should’ve Been in At Launch
Nowadays, most major titles now launch with a competitive mode, where players can earn exclusive in-game items and work their way through a dedicated ranking system to determine their skill against other players.
Looking at Infinity Ward’s track record, the likelihood of a competitive playlist being introduced to Modern Warfare is pretty slim but stranger things have certainly happened.
With Season 2 on the horizon, the competitive scene can only hope that a ranked playlist is one of the offerings when season two goes live.
