Breakdown
- Batman: Arkham Shadow is exclusive to Meta Quest 3, angering fans
- Gamers are still burned over Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
- Fans still want a new Batman game on consoles and PC
Batman: Arkham Shadow is a nice surprise for VR gamers, but an absolute travesty for fans hoping this would be a console or PC game. To the surprise of no one, there are a ton of gamers who are sad that a new Arkham installment isn’t coming to their desired systems.
On the Batman Arkham subreddit, fans were astonished to see that a new Arkham game would end up being a Meta Quest 3 exclusive. While there are fans in the comments defending VR games, most agree that this is disappointing, given how long they’ve waited for a new Batman title.
“Wait this isn’t a joke?” said BlockOdRawCopper.
“It's real limited for platforms and its still VR which means it's a gimmicky imitation of an actual game,” commented ToTheBigReds.
“Is there a lore reason why it's Meta only?” asked ExchangeOk3027.
This kind of disappointment was expected since Batman: Arkham Shadow would interest more people if it were in a console or PC. VR gaming has definitely improved since its inception, but the hobby is still considered niche since these headsets cost a ton. Bruce Wayne might be a millionaire, but it’s a bit much to assume that his fans are as well.
Another reason fans are miffed is because Batman efforts on console and PC haven’t been up to snuff, with fans getting mediocre titles. Gotham Knights was too grindy for its own good, with too much focus on grinding and multiplayer. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is another live-service game fans are sick of and a playable Joker isn’t enough to get them interested.
Details on Batman: Arkham Shadow are slim and the trailer doesn’t actually reveal any gameplay, so we’ll have to wait for more information. Given the prominent nature of rats in this trailer, it seems that minor DC villain Ratcatcher appears to be the game’s villain. We actually haven’t seen Ratcatcher in a game yet, minus a profile bio in Arkham Asylum, so their appearance should be fun.
No release date for Batman: Arkham Shadow was revealed. For more on the game, here's everything we know about Arkham Shadow and our initial thoughts on the VR title's reveal.
