A new anti-cheat software has been introduced for Call of Duty games including Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. The new software will immediately close the game if it detects keyboard and mouse players using aim assist.
For years now, PC players have been able to use rebinding software to activate aim assist that’s designed to help controller players compete in cross-play matches. While games like The Finals have nerfed aim assist to combat this issue, CoD is taking a much more drastic approach.
Announced via a recent post on Twitter, the Call of Duty Ricochet anti-cheat feature is now able to force close CoD Modern Warfare 2, 3 and Warzone if a keyboard and mouse player activates aim assist. Those who continue to attempt engaging aim assist will be met with account suspensions and even bans.
“Our security detection systems now target players using tools to activate aim assist while using a mouse and keyboard,” the post tells fans. “The Call of Duty application will close if detected. Repeated use of these tools may lead to further account action.”
The new Call of Duty anti-cheat solution comes just before the arrival of Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 Reloaded. With a wave of returning players likely coming back to the game to earn ranked play rewards and get their hands on the TAQ Evolvere, Activision is working hard to make sure cheaters are properly dealt with.
PC players have gotten away with forcing aim assist onto the more precise control method of keyboard and mouse by using third-party XIMs and the popular remapping software reWASD. Some cheaters even go as far as to pirate the key mapping software for another slap in the face.
The Ricochet anti-cheat software has been largely praised for its ability to stop cheaters, but the endlessly popular CoD lobbies are still rife with wall hacks, aim bots and — of course — aim assist cheats. Hopefully, these new updates to Activision’s popular multiplayer series will help to make the title more fair for everyone.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. It’s battle royale spin-off Warzone is available for free on the same systems.
