Destiny 2’s next Episode, titled ‘Revenant’ is Bungie’s most "metal" season yet, according to them.

Moving from the Vex who were the main antagonists in Episode: Echoes, expect slaying a swarm of Scorn regularly. Senior Narrative Designer, Jerome Vernich, Staff Designer Clayton Kisko, and Sandbox craft land Chris Proctor discuss how ‘metal’ this new season is going to be.

It’s clear they went ahead and borrowed Bethesda’s DOOM as its main inspiration.

To those who haven’t followed Destiny 2, Episodes are basically the same thing as seasons. Each Episode is divided into three separate acts and will be updated every three weeks. The previous Episode, Echoes, brought unparalleled strength to the Vex after discovering the Traveler’s lost power.

Episode Revenant will act as the second major Season after Echoes, following the events of their massive The Final Shape expansion.

This will focus on the Scorn’s de-facto leader, Fikrul, as he obtains a piece of the Traveler’s power with him. This does not bode well for the Guardians as the Scorn will overwhelm our heroes with their newfound powers.

Despite the dangers, our Guardian is never alone. This Season will see the aid of returning characters such as Mithrax and her daughter, Eido.

The season will have 25 to 30 story threads that the Guardians will have to follow. Additionally, it’s also the first Season after The Final Shape to introduce a new Dungeon called Vesper’s Host.

The hour-long Developer Stream also showcased a handful of new weapons and activities for players to enjoy. Players who were active during the Into The Light event will be happy to know that Onslaught will receive a refresh.

As per usual, this endless horde mode will encourage players to participate, as this contains new weapons for players to grind.

If you're not familiar with the mode, the playlist will have a 10 wave format for standard and 50 wave for expert. The video also showed us returning defenses from Destiny 1 like the Shrapnel Turret.

Guardians should be on their toes as Power Levels will be enabled in these Onslaught events. This will be a cakewalk anyway as Guardians will have the full power of Light and Darkness at their side. New Exotics Weapons such as the Stasis Grenade Launcher that uses Primary Ammo will prove useful.

Alongside new weapons, stories and activities, Bungie also tweaked a handful of weapons that are taking over the meta. This includes the Fighting Lion Grenade Launcher, now with the Volatile perk.

This new season will pave the way to Destiny 2’s imminent Expansion called ‘Frontiers.’ Bungie mentioned that this new set of content will not compete with The Final Shape’s massive scale. Instead, it will be split into two Expansions per year.

The first Expansion, Codename Apollo, will arrive in Q1 and Q2 2025. The other, Codename Behemoth, will launch on Q3 and early 2026. Both expansions will feature four free major updates every year. This promising new venture into the series might help further their Destiny 2’s dwindling numbers.

Get your gears and weapons ready. Destiny 2’s next Episode, Revenant, arrives this October 8.
