Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is shaping up to be the biggest game in the Budokai Tenkaichi franchise thus far, with Bandai Namco already confirming over 150 characters for the base roster. The previous trailer showed us multiple variants of Goku and Vegeta, but a new one has now confirmed 11 different fighters added.
Without further ado, here are the 11 new characters confirmed for Bandai Namco’s anime brawler:
- Super Trunks
- Master Roshi (Max Power)
- Nappa
- Burter
- Jeice
- Super Saiyan Broly (Full Power)
- Hit
- Super Saiyan Kale (Berserk)
- Toppo
- Dyspo
- Kakunsa
Fans have probably seen some of these characters in Xenoverse 2 or FighterZ, but it’s still cool to see them return in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. One character who is pretty new to these games is Kakunsa, as she was a fairly minor character in Dragon Ball Super’s Tournament of Power arc. Then again, the Budokai Tenkaichi series has added Frieza Soldier and Saibaman as characters before, so this isn’t too surprising.
Although the Budokai Tenkaichi series wasn’t always known for its gameplay depths, the most recent gameplay showcase does reveal some interesting new mechanics. Skill Count is a new meter that builds up depending on how well you're doing, eventually letting you do Ultimate Attacks or deflecting energy beams with Super Perception. Revenge Counter lets you unleash a massive attack while taking damage and Vanishing Assault lets you teleport to an opponent you’ve knocked over.
It seems that Spike Chunsoft is putting a ton of effort behind Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, truly making use of current-gen technology. This is easily the best-looking Dragon Ball game ever made and we can’t wait to get our hands on this anime arena fighter.
With so much hype behind Sparking Zero and the upcoming Sand Land, it’s a true shame that Akira Toriyama passed away earlier this month. It’s a testament to his work that we still see adaptations of them so often and we know many of us will be in teams when we start playing these games.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is currently being developed for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. No release date has been announced, as of this writing.
