Sony has accidentally leaked the entirety of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, making the DLC playable earlier than it should have been. Granted, players can actively shield themselves from these spoilers by avoiding certain websites, but it’s clear that Sony has spoiled some major reveals.
Leaks of the DLC have hit the game’s subreddits, with fans talking about the fallout on social media. In regards to how this happened, Paul Tassi from Forbes tweeted out that Sony’s cloud streaming somehow released the DLC early. Needless to say, this is a disaster for Sony and we assume the FromSoftware devs aren’t particularly pleased with this development.
Elden Ring’s DLC was supposed to release on June 21 and we assume that an update will be released to block access to this content soon. We imagine that a ton of people are going to be disappointed by this leak and it shows how Sony’s cloud service has major errors to fix.
It isn’t even just FromSoftware’s DLC that got released early, as Destiny 2: The Final Shape was also released in its entirety. Considering how long this expansion was in development, we can’t imagine how the devs at Bungie feel about this.
This might have a major impact on the sales of these games, as fans can now spoil the Elden Ring DLC for themselves. Obviously, hardcore fans are going to avoid these spoilers like the plague, but those curious about the DLC can now see everything. Simply put, this is a major disaster for Sony, especially since the company’s State of Play will be showing soon.
Patient gamers will be able to play all of this content in due time, where the hype can be properly managed by the devs and fans. However, there’s no doubt that some of the excitement has been ruined for fans and we’re not sure how Sony’s State of Play can recover from this.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC on June 21. Elden Ring is readily available on all of those consoles.
