The long-awaited next-gen update for Fallout 4 on Xbox Series and PS5 has been delayed until 2024. With Starfield updates taking priority at Bethesda, the new Fallout 4 improvements will release next year.
As Bethesda plans massive updates for Starfield including “new ways of travel”, Fallout 4’s previously revealed next-gen update has been pushed further into next year.
Revealed in a new Twitter post on Wednesday, Bethesda explained that the new update would be released sometime during 2024. However, there’s currently no concrete release date for the update two years after its announcement.
“Thank you for your patience with us as we work on the Fallout 4 next-gen update. We know you're excited, and so are we!” Bethesda revealed. “But we need a bit more time and look forward to an exciting return to the Commonwealth in 2024.”
While some fans are fine with waiting even longer for the next-gen update for Fallout 4, other fans have expressed disappointment with the developer’s long development time for what was expected to be a simple update to the game.
“Does it really take 2 years to release an FPS and resolution boost?” one fan asked in a Twitter response.
With the new Fallout TV show on the horizon, many fans believe the upcoming next-gen update will release alongside the series on Amazon Prime. This would place the Fallout 4 next-gen update release around April, almost two and a half years after its initial reveal.
Alongside higher resolution support and a doubled framerate, the Fallout 4 next-gen update could also provide an increased mod limit for console users. Currently, mods on Xbox and PlayStation can only take up a few gigabytes, but with next-gen resources, the games could allow players to install even more of the best Fallout 4 mods.
Fallout 4 is currently available to play on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game is also available via Xbox Game Pass for current subscribers.
