Final Fantasy 14 is the most popular MMORPG available right now, with millions of players still participating in events on both console and PC. It looks like even more players will be joining the reborn realm soon, with reports claiming that a mobile version of the MMO is coming soon.
Exputer claims that Tencent is working on a mobile version of this beloved MMORPG with Square Enix. Details on this port are pretty slim right now, so fans will have to wait for an official announcement before getting too excited. That being said, this could bring millions of players to the series if it launches well.
While the report is very exciting, some fans are also worried that this mobile port of Final Fantasy 14 may have been cancelled. Square Enix previously said that they actually cancelled a collaboration with Tencent, alongside other projects. It wasn’t stated if the game was this port but that would be very disappointing.
The folks at Square Enix have been working on their priorities lately, with a focus on multi-plat releases after some temporary exclusivity deals with Sony. Part of that plan includes a port of Final Fantasy 16 to PC, which has many fans excited since that action RPG is stuck on PS5.
It will be interesting to see how Final Fantasy 14 is brought to mobile, especially since F2P developer Tencent is part of it. Given the company’s development history, we assume that this is a whole new game that uses the same story and setting as FF14.
Even if the game doesn’t come to mobile devices, fans on console and PC will continue to play the MMO for years to come. Dawntrail was just released and is already a hit with fans, even if some of the decision’s made with the expansion’s side quests are a bit odd.
Final Fantasy 14 is readily available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. Dawntrail is also available now, so fans who’ve played every other expansion should get on it now.
