Square Enix’s hit MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is making its Xbox debut later this month. With the first open beta on the way, Xbox fans will finally be able to join one of the biggest MMOs in history.

After a decade of avoiding Xbox, the beloved Final Fantasy MMO will start its open beta on Wednesday, February 21 at 3am ET / 8am GMT. Designed for newcomers, the beta will only be accessible for those playing the game on a brand-new account for the game.

When the game finally launches, existing Final Fantasy XIV players will be able to link their accounts to the Xbox console and play as their character across platforms. However, the first trial of the MMORPG on Xbox Series X and Series S won’t let you do that.

“The open beta test will only be available to new players who will be playing Final Fantasy 14 for the first time,” Square Enix announced in a blog post. “Take this opportunity to invite your Xbox-owning friends who have never experienced the ever-expanding world of Final Fantasy 14 and adventure together.”

Currently, Square Enix plans to fully launch the Xbox version at the end of the game’s open beta period if there are no major issues. If huge problems are discovered through mass testing, the Final Fantasy XIV Xbox release date may get pushed back to fix any remaining bugs and glitches.

When Final Fantasy XIV’s Xbox port finally does release, players will be able to enjoy the game’s generous Expanded Free Trial. This gives players access to the game’s main story and first two expansions for free with no play time restrictions. The only restriction is a level cap locked at level 70. As soon as you hit level 70, you’ll have to start paying.

While games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are still launching as PlayStation 5 exclusives, FF XIV’s launch on Xbox is part of Square Enix’s new multiplatform initiative. Reports also claim that the older Final Fantasy 7 Remake is finally coming to Xbox after years of PlayStation exclusivity.
