PC and PlayStation 5 players are already enjoying Final Fantasy 16. Following producer Naoki Yoshida's hints about a potential Xbox release, Xbox users may soon have the chance to experience Square Enix's iconic action role-playing game.

The franchise has been available on PlayStation since 1997, starting with the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy 7.

Since then, Square Enix has made efforts to release the game on multiple platforms, including PC.

Now, it seems the publisher is taking things further by planning to bring Final Fantasy 16 to Xbox Series X|S. The development team wants the game to be released on Xbox.

"Of course, we announced the PC version of the game, so looking toward the Xbox version, we definitely want to release it on Xbox," Yoshida said in an interview with Video Games on Sports Illustrated.

However, the director couldn't provide specific details about when it would be available, admitting he wasn't in a position to do so.

While the timeline remains uncertain, Yoshida wants Xbox players to stay hopeful that the day they've been waiting for will come soon.

"I want to emphasize that it’s not as if there’s zero hope; we very much do want to achieve that," he continued. "Players should not give up on their hopes."

On the surface, it appears that Square Enix is working on bringing Final Fantasy 16 to Xbox.

Thankfully, its predecessor, Final Fantasy 15, is available for the Microsoft consoles, but other titles, such as the highly acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Remake, have yet to be released.

Since 1997, Square Enix has released Final Fantasy games on PlayStation before porting them to other systems.

While some modern titles have been released for Xbox 360 and Xbox One, new entries are often exclusive to PlayStation 5 and PC.

This exclusivity has become a significant frustration for Xbox players, but that may finally change, as Square Enix is now working to bring more of the franchise's games to Xbox.

According to GameIndustry.biz, the video game publisher is aiming to change its business model to an "aggressive multiplatform" approach after experiencing what it described as a disappointing financial year following the release of some of its best titles that failed to "live up to profit expectations."

The company plans to release its future titles across multiple platforms, including Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, to address this issue.

Although it remains uncertain whether Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 will be included, recent revelations from Yoshi-P suggest it's possible.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is already available on PC, and Rebirth may follow suit once the PlayStation 5 exclusivity window ends.

With that in mind, more Final Fantasy titles may soon be available for Xbox and other gaming consoles.
