Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is out and most seem to agree that it’s a great game, though small things like the Performance Mode are annoying fans. Luckily, it seems that Square Enix is on the case, as Director Naoki Hamaguchi has said that a future update will be fixing this graphics mode.
Speaking with One More Game PH, the director said that Square Enix has received a lot of feedback in regards to their Performance Mode. While he didn’t say when the update would be released, Hamaguchi says it won’t be a long wait, so fans have something to look forward to.
“We’ve received a lot of feedback on whether the graphics in the performance mode will be improved or not,” Hamaguchi says. “We hear you, and we are currently working on an update patch to improve that aspect. I don’t think the release date would be far away from now.”
Performance Mode sacrifices some graphical fidelity for better framerate, so Final Fantasy VII Rebirth fans did expect a small visual sacrifice to this mode. However, the current state of this graphics mode has overdone it, making some of the backgrounds blurry and turning the faces weird with its lighting.
Many fans were already annoyed by this when playing the Rebirth demo, which is where criticism of the game’s visuals was first raised. Square Enix did update the demo and even promised that the changes made in the demo would be reflected in the final game. It seems those changes weren’t enough, so more updates are coming.
Criticism of the graphics aside, most gamers seem to agree that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a stellar game. It somehow managed to become the highest-rated entry the Final Fantasy series has had in two decades. We were also fairly impressed with the game, scoring the PS5 exclusive a high 9 out of 10.
