Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is coming out next week and hype for this sequel is at an all-time high, with many wanting to know when the third game is coming. While we don’t know when the third game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, Square Enix indicates that it’s coming in four years.
Speaking with YouTuber Julien Chièze, Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi said that the development process for the third game is the same as the first two installments. Although Hamaguchi didn’t say that the third installment is coming in four years, the fact that Rebirth came out four years after Remake indicates this is the case.
“Of course I cannot tell you exactly at what stage we are, but we have already made progress on the script and we are thinking about certain developments,” Hamaguchi said. “When we got to the end of the development for Remake, we started talking about the sequel with [writer] Nojima-san, and I think we can say that we are in the same situation today.”
If everything goes according to plan, it looks like the third Final Fantasy VII Remake game, which will probably be called Final Fantasy VII Reunion, will come in 2028. Fans should prepare for possible delays since game development is tricky, but Rebirth is coming out on time so that’s a good sign.
Based on what we’ve seen from Remake and Rebirth, we know that the third game is going to be gorgeous and have great combat. Remake set the bar high with its battle system and Rebirth looks even better, thanks to double team attacks. The fact that Rebirth also has a huge world to explore, with numerous side quests, mini-games, and hidden bosses to fight, makes it a perfect follow-up to the linear Remake.
