Xbox continues to lose more of its exclusives, not just due to sharing their games with rival companies, but also because of licensing issues. Fans won’t be able to buy Forza Horizon 4 soon and that’s a shame, since it’s one of the system’s best racing games.
A blog post on the game’s website reveals that players won’t be able to purchase this racer after December 15, 2024. This is due to expiring license issues, as a number of the game’s cars were on limited deals and those are going to be up soon.
Gamers with an Xbox console are pretty used to this, as Forza Horizon 4 isn’t even the first entry in the series to get de-listed like this. Previous entries have also been removed because of these issues, showing that these licensed games are on borrowed time. The fourth game isn’t even that old, only coming out six years ago, so fans may want to pick any future entries up sooner rather than later.
Forza 4 is actually losing a bunch of its content soon, as the game’s DLC has already started getting de-listed from PC and Xbox. Curious gamers can pick up the Deluxe and Ultimate editions now if they still want to experience the DLC. There are also less legal ways to get this content, which seems to be fair game now.
If there’s any good news for Forza Horizon 4 fans, it’s that the servers will still be up for a good amount of time. At the least, fans will be able to play this racer offline or online, so those who have copies of the game can still enjoy it. We don’t know how long these servers are going to last, so players should enjoy them while they can.
Seeing Xbox lose exclusives like this is depressing and we imagine that things will be worse for Forza 5. That game has partnerships with Barbie and other brands, so those will likely expire in a few years as well.
Forza Horizon 4 is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series until December 15.
