Gameloft has announced that they will be working on a brand new Dungeons & Dragons game, which will be a mix of survival, life simulation, and action RPG. This is the first major video game to use D&D in the title, so fans of the tabletop game will want to keep their eyes here.
Announced by Gameloft (via Gematsu), this upcoming game is supposedly coming to consoles and PCs, though no release window was given. Cooperative play was also mentioned, so fans can expect some form of multiplayer here, possibly being a live service though that’s just speculation.
“The game, set in the mythical Forgotten Realms within the Dungeons & Dragons universe, will bring unique cooperative gameplay built around an innovative hybrid of survival, life simulation, and action RPG,” wrote the press release. “Players can expect an adventure where the rich lore of this legendary franchise meets real-time survival in a unique campaign of resilience, camaraderie, and danger at nearly every turn.”
Interestingly enough, this new Dungeons & Dragons game is being developed by Gameloft Montreal, who also worked on Disney Dreamlight Valley. Those credentials prove that the company can handle a life simulation game, though it will be interesting to see how combat and survival elements are incorporated. At the least, fans can expect this game to get constant events and updates, assuming it has live service elements like Dreamlight Valley.
While this is the first game in a long time to use the D&D name, it’s not the only major D&D game we’ve seen. Baldur’s Gate 3, the 2023 Game of the Year, is a D&D game in every possible way, giving players near limitless choices and letting them hit on anything that breathes. Needless to say, it’s a great game and gamers shouldn’t immediately compare it to the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons title.
At the time of writing, no release date for Gameloft’s Dungeons & Dragons game has been revealed. In the meantime, fans can check out Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
