Guilty Gear Strive has announced its fourth season of DLC during this year EVO, adding familiar faces and new fighters into the mix. One of those new fighters is a guest character that no one could have predicted, as Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is coming to the fighter in 2025.
Lucy was genuinely surprising to fans as they thought that Edgerunners would only appear in the CD Projekt Red Cyberpunk games and nothing else. This announcement shows that isn’t the case, so it looks like these characters might appear in other gaming crossovers, if CDPR approved them.
Seeing Lucy from Edgerunners appear in Guilty Gear Strive is a surreal moment to many, though it does make sense in terms of visual identity. The anime’s cast are too stylized and, well, anime to appear in Cyberpunk 2077, so they feel more in-line with Guilty Gear’s artstyle. Plus, this will let us see more of Lucy’s cool moves, which fans couldn’t get enough of in the anime.
CD Projekt Red is no stranger to fighting game crossovers, as the company did let Geralt from The Witcher appear in Soulcalibur 6. Geralt fits pretty well in the Soulcalibur universe, as The Withcer is set in a similar medieval-like timeline. Similarly, Lucy is a good fit for Strive since Edgerunners takes place in a cybernetic future, while the Guilty Gear universe is filled with cybernetics and magic.
Fans have wanted to see more Edgerunners in video game form, which is why there were a ton of rumors that the anime would have a bigger presence in 2077. While that never happened, Falco did make a quick cameo in voice form, while David was also honored as a legend in the game.
Guilty Gear Strive has been free of guest characters thus far, firmly relying on the game’s core cast and simpler battle system. The fact that this is their first guest character is surprising since every fighting game has done them. Even Street Fighter 6 is adding Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui from King of Fighters.
