Hades 2 has been a massive hit as soon as the roguelike launched in early access via Steam, with Supergiant Games far from done polishing the game. The first patch, the devs revealed, will bemaking changes to resource gathering and traversal.
Supergiant announced on May 13 that the first major patch for Hades 2 will be released later this month. The patch will address two important aspects of the game: the resource gathering mechanics and the movement of Melinoe, the game's protagonist.
A new mechanic introduced with Hades 2, resource gathering has players choosing a specific tool before each run, ranging from a pickaxe to harvest minerals, a spade to dig up seeds, a Tablet of Peace to guide lost spirits back to the Crossroads, and the classic fishing rod, which makes a return from the first game.
What's frustrating for players is the fact that only one tool can be carried at a time and oftentimes plenty of resources will be lost each run due to not bringing the correct one.
While there are ways to mitigate this, like bringing an animal familiar, it's definitely not a good feeling seeing a rare mineral be left behind because you decided to bring your fishing rod with you.
Although specifics about what exactly will be changed weren't revealed, Supergiant stated the following regarding resource gathering:
We want Hades 2 players to focus on goals that are important to them, though don't want resource gathering to feel too frustrating, such as if you didn't bring the right gathering tool along for the ride.
That's not all players can expect from the first patch of the early access period, as Melinoe's traversal will receive some tuning. Both her dash and sprint will get some tweaks, with the intention of making her play a bit more uniquely than Zagreus, the first game's protagonist.
It's true that traversal feels similar to the first game so I'm excited to hear what exactly Supergiant is looking to change to make the experience more unique.
