Helldivers 2 continues to be one of this year’s biggest surprise hits, as the multiplayer shooter is getting even more content soon. Considering the game’s success, it’s easy to see why some fans believed a rumour about Sony developer Arrowhead, though the company’s CEO said that isn’t the case.
Responding to a tweet, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt shut these rumours down, confirming that this is a lie and the company is staying independent. Pilestedt also mocked how the false report also used a fairly old logo of Arrowhead, as the company has moved on to a new one.
“This is the first I hear of this... And that's a good indication that it's fake,” Pilestedt tweeted out. “Also, very old logo.”
Sony is no stranger to buying studios after they release a hot game, which is why they bought Insomniac Games after Marvel’s Spider-Man sold well. It’s why fans immediately bought into this rumour, so it’s good to know that the Helldivers 2 studio will remain independent for a bit longer.
While we can see why PlayStation Studios would want to buy Arrowhead, keeping them independent is healthy for the current state of gaming. After all, the simultaneous release of PS5 and PC is why the multiplayer shooter has grown in popularity this quickly. Hopefully, Sony has more plans to release more of their games on PC immediately, but we won’t hold our breath.
More Helldivers 2 content will be coming soon, as Arrowhead recently confirmed that mechs will be coming to the game. Big robots are always a good thing in our books and should make fans who desperately want a Titanfall 3 very happy. If we’re getting mechs this quickly after launch, we can only imagine what else will be coming to the popular shooter.

Helldivers 2 is readily available on PlayStation 5 and PC. Curious fans can also pick up the first Helldivers game on PS4, PS5, and PC, though that is a twin-stick shooter, albeit, a very good one.
