Helldivers 2 has become a huge success for Sony, as it is now the most-played PlayStation game to be released on PC. The simultaneous release on PS5 and PC seems to have helped this game tremendously, as it has a higher player count than every PlayStation PC game combined.
According to SteamDB, the multiplayer shooter has peaked at an astonishing 409,367, which is already an impressive number by itself. VGC has added that the combined player base for other PlayStation games on PC is 300,359, so the shooter has beaten them all by an additional 100,000 players.
The player base for Helldivers 2 was already pretty high when it first came out, but we didn’t expect it to explode like this. While the first Helldivers was pretty popular in its own right, the simultaneous release shows that the PC gaming audience can make a difference.
It also helps that the shooter doesn’t shove microtransactions down our throats, making every piece of DLC earnable through playing the game. Some could argue that the presence of a Battle Pass is still pretty bad, but it’s still rare to see a developer make everything in the game earnable. Hopefully, this will inspire other developers to do the same, especially since the shooter is currently a huge success.
Now that’s not to say everything surrounding Helldivers 2 has been positive, as the game does have a couple of issues. We already mentioned that there is still a Battle Pass, even if everything in the game is earnable, as that can tempt others to buy everything. The game also won’t be getting a PvP mode anytime soon, due to so many gamers being toxic online.

Regardless of these issues, it’s clear that this shooter is going to be a major game-changer for Sony, who are planning to bring more titles to PC. Helldivers 2 is now available on PlayStation 5 and PC.
