It looks like Warner Bros. isn’t done milking Hogwarts Legacy just yet, as a report has revealed an upcoming “Director’s Cut” for the game is planned. Legacy revived interest in the Harry Potter franchise after Fantastic Beasts almost killed it, so we’re not too surprised that Warner Bros. wants more of it.
Jason Schreier’s extensive report on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s failure reveals that some of the devs are now working on Legacy’s “Director’s Cut.” While this hasn’t been officially announced, Shreier is one of the most credible reports in the industry and fans would be fine with this.
Numerous fans have said that they wanted more out of Hogwarts Legacy, as the open-world adventure was missing iconic elements like Quidditch. Should this Director’s Cut become a reality, adding the franchise’s only well-known sport to the game seems like a no-brainer.
While this is all just rumor and speculation for now, it is interesting to see news about this Director’s Cut come after the game’s recent free update. Fans weren’t too impressed with the summer update, as it only added some cosmetics and a few new quests, so this Director’s Cut could help with that.
At the time of writing, it’s not yet known if the Director’s Cut of Hogwarts Legacy will be a standalone download or if fans can upgrade to this version. Persona 5 Royal and the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance didn’t offer any upgrade options to players, though these games did add plenty of content. Only time will tell, but if Warner Bros. wants to keep whatever fan trust they have left, a digital upgrade for existing owners would be great.
Hogwarts Legacy was a massive sales juggernaut when it came out last year, managing to top the charts for current-gen systems, last-gen systems, and even the Switch. While the game doesn’t do anything too different, fans did love the expanded Harry Potter lore.
