Fans have been impatient waiting for KOTOR to return and usher them in a glorious new era of Star Wars video games. While the remake isn’t going to be coming out soon, we might get the franchise back in a way most fans aren’t expecting.
Leslye Headland, the showrunner of Star Wars: The Acolyte, has told Omelette (translated by IGN) that she wants to make a movie based on KOTOR. Before fans start thinking that this is a direct remake of the game, Headland said that she wants it to be based on the sequel and to focus on Kreia.
“I’ve always wanted to explore a live-action version of the Knights of the Old Republic game and Kreia’s character,” Headland said. “I think it would be a really interesting story to bring to life.”
Kreia was your blind master in KOTOR 2 and fans who played the game were attached to the character, hence, interest in this pitch. While a Star Wars movie based on these games hasn’t been announced, it wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen.
The Acolyte actually takes place in a similar timeline to Bioware’s KOTOR games, since the series takes place thousands of years before The Phantom Menace. It means fans don’t have to worry about everything being related to the original trilogy, which is what ruined The Rise of Skywalker for many.
While a movie based on these games would be great, fans would rather have that remake on current-gen systems to re-experience that adventure. Knowing that this game has gone through so much changes over the years has fans cautious about its eventual release. Still, the remake hasn’t been canceled and there’s a good chance all of this time will lead to plenty of polish.
At the time of writing, fans can purchase the first two KOTOR games on PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices now. Hopefully, that remake is going to come out and blow us away, but thre are no guarantees.
