Breakdown

  • Two modders have seemingly leaked the original Modern Warfare 3's ending
  • This ending teases shocking ramfications for the 2011 original, with a mystery man seemingly responsible for the game's previous ending
  • It's not yet known why this was cut

The original ending to 2011’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has made its way online and fans are in awe because it’s a shocking scene. At the time, fans figured that there had to be a different ending to various audio files found online, but this outright confirms it.

Call of Duty modders yoyo1love and Vlad Loktionov claim to have found the shooter’s original ending and have uploaded it for the world to see. Fans can check this cut ending down below and see how it would have teased a new game in the series, before Activision Blizzard went in a new direction.

Based on the clip below, the original Modern Warfare 3 ending would have continued with a mysterious man in the shadows watching Makarov swing from a rope and Price bleed out while smoking. When this new mystery man walks out, Price seems to have died and the screen fades to black, which is really interesting.

Fans are shocked to see this kind of ending for the game, as it seems to have pointed towards a Modern Warfare 4 or some other sequel to the series. It’s not yet known why the devs changed their minds and cut this unique ending, though they did focus on other CoD sub-series afterward.

After the original Modern Warfare 3 came out, Activision Blizzard pivoted to Black Ops and Ghosts for a bit. We did eventually get Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare, but fans felt these games went too far, hence, the recent Modern Warfare reboot.

Now that we’re getting Call of Duty games every year, it will be interesting to see if we actually get a Modern Warfare 4 this time. Then again, with the poor reception of Modern Warfare 3 (2023), Activision Blizzard might stay away from this sub-series again.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is now available on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. The new Call of Duty will be announced next month, on June 9.
