Breakdown

  • Warner Bros. is attempting to takedown YouTuber Toasted for posting Mortal Kombat 1 mods
  • The YouTube personality was forced to private these MK1 videos until this matter can be resolved
  • Big companies like Warner Bros. keep wanting to benefit from their games, as if their live-service titles

A popular Mortal Kombat 1 YouTube channel is being sued by Warner Bros. for showing off the fighter’s wacky mods on the PC scene. Considering how this channel attracts plenty of attention from fans and casuals, Warner Bros. taking it down isn’t surprising, given how dumb the company’s decisions have been lately.

Toasted, the YouTuber in question, confirmed they had to private most of the MK1 mod videos on Twitter, claiming Warner Bros. is trying to shut down their channel. Based on their response, it seems that Warner Bros. isn’t giving them any choice on the matter, which is disappointing to many fans.

“This morning I received an IP Infringement Notification directly from Warner Brothers stating that the Mortal Kombat mods in my content 'infringe' on their intellectual property rights,” Toasted wrote on Twitter. “I've been requested to delete all Mortal Kombat 1 videos from my channel or else they will issue copyright strikes and essentially delete my channel in its entirety.”

Fans of Mortal Kombat 1 will probably recognize some of the mods shared by Toasted, like the one where he had Disney Princesses beating each other to death. Toasted’s videos of Mods brought plenty of attention to the fighter, so it’s a shame that Warner Bros. is trying to destroy something beloved by fans.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time this channel has gotten in trouble for showing off a PC game’s mods. Nintendo got really angry when Toasted tried to showcase a Palworld mod that replaced all of the Pals with Pokémon. The company even issued DMCA takedowns to sites like Nexus Mods to ensure that there won’t be any similar mods.

Big companies like Warner Bros. want to earn a ton of money with their video game releases and Mortal Kombat 1 is no exception. Warner Bros. is treating the game like a live-service, charging fans for Festive Fatalities and in-game currency, in addition to DLC characters or costumes.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available now on PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
