Warner Bros’ multimedia crossover fighting game MultiVersus is seemingly getting ready for a huge relaunch. After being delisted last year, the Smash Bros clone is teasing its long-awaited return to PC and console.
Late last year, fans noticed activity surfacing on the game’s social media account signaling plans to bring the game back. Alongside changes to the Twitter account, Multiversus also opened a new Threads account. Furthermore, new achievements were added to the game’s Steam profile.
In a new update, MultiVersus’ Twitter account has posted for the first time in almost a year. A new post on the account reads: “*taps mic* testing, testing, 1, 2, 3.”
Fans instantly jumped on the tweet expressing their excitement for the game’s return, as well as begging for new characters to be added to the Smash Bros clone game.
Some fans have asked for characters such as Ben 10 and even Walter White to be added to the title. Fighting alongside Superman, Gandalf, Scooby Doo and Arya Stark, they wouldn’t stand out that much.
MultiVersus originally released in July 2022 in an open beta as a free to play game. The title initially saw massive player counts with over 20 million unique players joining the game during its beta period. The game saw a peak concurrent player count of 153,044 users just on Steam. However, the player count dropped by 99% on PC in less than a year.
When the game was delisted following its year-long open beta, fans of the game were understandably upset. With the beta version allowing fans to spend real money on skins and premium currency, players had their paid items ripped away from them with just the promise of the game’s return. It’s not known if everyone’s paid cosmetics will return alongside the game.
MultiVersus is part of Warner Bros’ push into the live service industry. Following the failure of Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, the company is doubling down on live service games instead of following the huge success of the single player adventure game Hogwarts Legacy.
MultiVersus should be released on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.
