Rooster Teeth’s iconic RWBY franchise is coming to MultiVersus, despite Warner Bros’ recent axing of the popular internet media enterprise.
A datamine of the recent re-launch of the Warner Bros Smash clone revealed that RWBY's protagonist Ruby Rose is one of the planned additions to the game. The red-haired, gun-scythe-wielding anime protagonist will join the game in a future update, presumably still voiced by Lindsey Jones.
Dataminer Ausil discovered that Ruby is the only character from Rooster Teeth’s franchise making the jump to the fighting game. However, other characters like Yang, Blake, and Weiss could debut in future updates.
RWBY’s addition to MultiVersus follows the closure of creators Rooster Teeth. Earlier this year, Warner Bros announced the closure of the Austin, Texas-based entertainment group, officially closing the studio’s doors on May 11, 2024.
Rooster Teeth was known for the popular Halo-based machinima series Red vs Blue, the online gameplay group Achievement Hunter, as well as podcasts like FaceJam, F**kFace, and more. The company created 21 years of beloved internet content.
However, none of the company’s projects were as successful as RWBY. Since its creation in 2011, the 3D-anime series has resulted in multiple video games, including the underwhelming RWBY: Grimm Eclipse, the awesome RWBY: Arrowfell, and the crossover fighting game BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle.
While Rooster Teeth is now over, RWBY will continue on. At the time of writing, the state of RWBY Volume 10 is still up in the air, but the show’s creators have provided a promising update on the series’ future.
After crossing over with massive brands such as DC’s Justice League, RWBY remains a key franchise for Warner Bros, even without the studio that originally created it. With 2D anime spin-offs, manga adaptations, and swathes of merchandise around the world, RWBY is still a huge success.
