We’re officially getting a new Nintendo Direct tomorrow, which should give us the last slate of relevant Switch games before the Switch 2 is announced. Since this might be the last Direct fully focused on the current Switch system, it could also be the last chance for these beloved Zelda games to get ported as well.

Fans have been waiting for years to see if Nintendo would port the HD remasters of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess from the Wii U to Switch. Nintendo has ported most of their acclaimed first-party titles like Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, so it’s odd seeing these Zelda titles missing from that lineup.

Various rumors have claimed that these ports of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess have been finished for years now, with Nintendo just waiting for the right time to release them. Since the company has officially confirmed that a Switch 2 is coming soon, tomorrow's Nintendo Direct seems like the time to pull the trigger on these releases.

The Wii U might not have been a great Zelda machine, but fans were blessed with these great ports of already-excellent Gamecube games. Wind Waker was a gorgeous game and the folks at Nintendo made it look better on Wii U, so we imagine that those colors would pop on a Switch OLED. Although the visuals of Twilight Princess have aged, this is still a great game with good dungeons and the Wii U port gave fans a boss rush for those who want a challenge.

If we don’t get these ports announced during tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct, we imagine that these games will get cross-gen ports on Switch and Switch 2. That would be an odd farewell for the Switch, however, so we like to think that Nintendo will just announce these games tomorrow and be done with them.

Fans can catch the new Nintendo Direct tomorrow on June 18. The showcase will be around 40 minutes and is going to start at 15:00 BST. Let’s hope we finally get those Zelda games.
