Pokémon GO might still be a popular mobile app, but fans are still upset with developer Niantic over some of the game’s egregious microtransactions. It's bad enough that players have to pay for extra items or Research Tasks, but now the company is trying to trick people into buying fake deals.
A post on the game’s subreddit (via Dexerto) called out Niantic for trying to make one of the microtransactions seem like a deal. The poster points out how one of the packages players can pay for would cost 7000 in-game currency. That’s what most players expect but the package was later re-listed as 7000 in-game currency but as a 60% bargain, making people think this is a deal.
Numerous Pokémon GO fans were upset with this move, as it shows just how low these devs are willing to go just for money. Considering how successful this game already is, trying to rip players off with fake “deals” like that could lose consumer trust. Unfortunately, this is Pokémon GO, so there are already players dedicated to playing this daily and potentially buying these microtransactions.
Despite still being popular with plenty of fans, Niantic’s app has caught a lot of flack for becoming even greedier over the past couple of years. From limiting who can attend certain events to constantly shoving microtransactions down fans’ throats, Niantic’s reputation has not been great.
Even recent Research Tasks have gained criticism, as the most recent one concerning Kecleon has angered plenty of players. While Research Tasks can be time-consuming, this one was annoyingly longer than most, as it required Pokémon GO players to look for an invisible critter. Needless to say, the company should start listening to fans more, but that won’t be happening anytime soon.

For those curious about the app, Pokémon GO is readily available on iOS and Android devices. Those who want a more conventional Pokémon experience can pick up Scarlet and Violet on Nintendo Switch.
