The next big update for Rainbow Six Siege has been delayed. Rainbow Six Siege Year 8 Season 4 Operation Deep Freeze will miss its initial release date, much to the dismay of the game’s hardcore fanbase.
Following huge delays to Bungie’s next Destiny expansion and slower-than-expected Modern Warfare 3 seasons, Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six is the latest in a long line of live service titles to suffer from a lengthy delay.
In a disappointing move, Ubisoft postponed the new content drop on the Rainbow Six: Siege Y8S4 release date. Fans were heavily expecting the tactical FPS game to release its update at the time of writing, but were instead met with a surprise delay to an unannounced later date.
We have decided to postpone the release of Rainbow Six Siege’s Year 8 Season 4, Operation Deep Freeze for further testing,” Ubisoft revealed on Twitter. The developer explained the delay was to “ensure the best possible experience for players.”
At the time of writing, no date has been revealed for the next Rainbow Six Siege update. However, Ubisoft explained a new date would be revealed when the team is ready.
Fans of the competitive multiplayer game have not taken kindly to the delay of Operation Deep Freeze. While many were understanding of the update’s delay, multiple fans were upset at the last minute announcement of the new season’s pushback.
“Delays are perfectly fine but this has to get communicated better and not literally THE DAY the season would've launched,” one fan responded on Twitter.
“This is like telling your teacher [on the] day of the test that you didn’t get any study material. Please be transparent with the community and it will work out better for you guys in the long run. I promise transparency means a lot to gamers. Happy to wait but not in silence,” said another.
Despite the abject failure of the horror-themed spin-off Rainbow Six Extraction, Rainbow Six Siege has continued to garner a dedicated community of players. However, the lack of transparency from Ubisoft is a sticking point, especially for a title that used to be praised for its in-depth updates for fans.
Rainbow Six Siege is available as a free-to-play title on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PS4, PS5 and PC.
