Atlus is bringing back Shin Megami Tensei V to the spotlight but it doesn’t look like the same game from 2021. While the game seems to have similar story beats, there are also a ton of new features that could make this re-release enticing for fans.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is a new version of the 2021 Switch exclusive, with plenty of new gameplay elements, similar to Persona 5 Royal. The player still controls a teenager who becomes a blue-haired demon summoner, but they’re also joined by a mysterious young girl with her own set of powers.
In addition to new story beats, it also looks like the game will have a ton of new content for veteran players to go through. There are new rail sections to grind through ala Sonic the Hedgehog, alongside new battles to partake in and new abilities to master. By all accounts, this looks like the best way to play this beloved JRPG.
Luckily, fans won’t have to wait too long to pick this game up, as Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is slated for a June 21 release. While this was announced during the Nintendo Direct, the game is also coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC.
The Switch version of Vengeance should run similarly to the original game, but we’re glad this game is getting a chance to shine on other systems. Fans are probably hoping for sharper visuals and a better frame rate, which will happen in the current-gen versions of this RPG.
Released back in 2021, the original Shin Megami Tensei V was released to critical acclaim, with many praising the combat system and demon recruitment. Although the story is fairly weak, it did give players fun open-world hubs to explore, each one filled with various side quests and bosses.
