Konami is attempting to recreate the magic of Hideo Kojima’s P.T with Silent Hill: The Short message. Another free first-person horror experience, the new experience has once-again been stealth-dropped on PlayStation.
Revealed at the PlayStation State of Play showcase alongside games like Sonic x Shadow Generations, the new Silent Hill game is unmistakably modern Konami taking a stab at giving the horror series a new jolt of life.
With Silent Hill 2 Remake still deep in development at Bloober Team, without a release date, the new game is trying to give fans what they loved about P.T. while also offering a brand-new take on the genre.
Set in modern-day Germany, you play as Anita as you explore a horrifying location known only as The Villa. Just like P.T’s mysterious house, The Villa is not what it seems, and you’ll soon have to deal with all manner of horrifying foes.
Just like the best Silent Hill games, the creatures are once again manifestations of themes. Judging from the game’s age rating description, the creatures will represent themes of suicide and self-harm.
Silent Hill: The Short Message is also unmistakably of the modern era. During her exploration, Anita will frequently receive smartphone messages as well as use her phone's flashlight to navigate the extremely dark environments.
The new game is part of Konami’s attempt to revive the Silent Hill franchise, just as Capcom has done for Resident Evil. Whether or not this pays off in the long run has yet to be proven.
Silent Hill: The Short Message is available right now on PlayStation 5. No other versions of the game have been announced.
