Fans have fallen in love with Star Wars Jedi protagonist Cal Kestis, with some hoping that he eventually appears in one of the franchise’s shows or movies. Cameron Monaghan, the actor who portrays Kestis in the games, is down to portray the character in these mediums, assuming the conditions are met.
Appearing in FanExpo Vancouver 2024 (via Gamereactor), Monaghan said that “it would have to be right” when it comes to him portraying the character in live-action. The actor understandably wants something creative for his character, since he doesn’t just want to “stand around and be there” like other cameos.
"It would have to be right. By that I mean, it has to continue the story or the character in some way. I don't want him to just kind of show up to stand around and be there,” Monaghan said. “I want him to mean something and for there to be a significance for the character itself. So, it would have to make sense. But in the right context then, yeah, absolutely."
Considering how overexposed this franchise has been, we can see why the Star Wars Jedi actor would want something different before committing. Disney pumped out too much Star Wars content recently and the company is now slowing down to appease fans who’ve been burned out. It’s similar to how they are handling the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which only has one movie coming out this year.
Most fans are still waiting for the third Star Wars Jedi game to see what happens to Monaghan’s Cal Kestis. EA is hoping to finish Kestis’ story with a third game, though they might struggle with that since the game’s director Stig Asmussen left the company. Hopefully, they’re able to conclude the story well, since it’s been one of the series’ selling points.
