Sony announced a new State of Play set to premiere on September 24 and it's safe to say fan expectations are all over the place.

Sony's recent catalog of releases has sparked a ton of discussion in the gaming community. Between Concord and Astro Bot, the company has experienced both one of the biggest flops in the history of the industry, as well as one of the most critically acclaimed platformers of recent times.

Naturally, with confidence in PlayStation all over the place, the upcoming State of Play could play a pivotal role in Sony's efforts to earn back some goodwill.

In a PlayStation blog, Sid Shuman, Senior Director at Sony Interactive Entertainment Content Communications revealed that the presentation will last roughly over 30 minutes and will showcase up to 20 titles that will launch on PS5 and PSVR2, with those interested able to tune in live on September 24 at 3:00PM PDT.

Immediately fans started speculating about the type of reveals we could get from Sony's conference. Some are hopeful the long-awaited sequel to Ghost of Tsushima will be finally revealed.

Sucker Punch's 2020 open-world game set in feudal Japan was a smash hit for Sony, selling over 9 million copies as of 2022. It recently received a PC port as well, which helped the game top the charts based on dollar sales according to NPD's Matt Piscatella.

Of course, a huge portion of the fanbase who are fed up with Sony's constant re-releases and remakes of relatively newer titles did not pass up on the opportunity to dunk on the company. After all, what's more likely than a remake of Days Gone? Not much, according to users on social media.

There is still a chance that we could see more than just remasters and remakes during the State of Play event. The blog post mentioned studios from "all over the world," suggesting that we may see third-party reveals in addition to first-party titles at the conference.
