Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is easily this year’s biggest disappointment and no one is more aware of that than Warner Bros. Discovery. While most would assume that the company would want to deviate from live-service games, it turns out they just want to make cheaper live-service games instead.
During the company’s Morgan Stanley speaking event (via GameSpot), WB gaming boss J.B. Perrette said that they would double down on live-service titles going forward. Even though Perrette acknowledges the success of triple-A games like Hogwarts Legacy, he said that they want to make games people can visit daily.
"Rather than just launching a one-and-done console game, how do we develop a game around, for example, a Hogwarts Legacy or Harry Potter, that is a live-service where people can live and work and build and play in that world in an ongoing basis?" Perrette said in the event.
Warner Bros. Discovery previously brought up how Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League didn’t live up to their expectations sales-wise. The company acknowledged that fans didn’t get into this live-service shooter, but it seems that their solution is just more of these games. Granted, making games for the mobile market is a lot cheaper, but it seems like WB is learning the wrong lessons here.
Even if it sounds ridiculous, this is in line with what the company previously said about its business strategy for video games. It seems that WB just has no shame when it comes to these live-service games, as they want to make more of them with their various IPs. Although they might be doing it for mobile instead, the company’s greedy intentions remain.
As for Suicide Squad: Kills the Justice League, it will be interesting to see if the game survives having multiple seasons. There are plans to add new characters and story chapters per season, so it will be interesting to see if they will be enough to entice new fans.
