Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League has been deemed a failure. The underwhelming anti-hero co-op game, that our reviewer somehow enjoyed, has now been thrown under the bus by Warner Bros, the company that mandated a live service multiplayer game in the first place.
While VR gamers ready up for Batman: Arkham Shadow on Meta Quest 3, PC and console users are stuck with Suicide Squad. While it has some great combat and a fun story, it’s baffling live service design and repetitive missions have left many fans bewildered at the state of it.
In a recent financial presentation, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed that Suicide Squad has indeed failed to meet any expectations set prior to launch. Coming after the rampant success of Hogwarts Legacy, the title is the black sheep of Warner Bros’ video game lineup.
“Unfortunately, the studio’s Q1 financials were overshadowed by the tough [comparison] at Games, following the great performance of Hogwarts Legacy last year, and the disappointing release of Suicide Squad in Q1 in our gaming group,” Zaslav said.
The Warner Bros CEO explained that the company is still planning to continue to create new games based on its IP. This includes Hogwarts Legacy sequels, new DC titles such as Monolith’s Wonder Woman game, and more.
“Warner Bros Discovery’s great storytelling IP, including Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Superman and many other parts of the DC Universe are largely underused,” the CEO said. “We are hard at work fixing that. It’s a core value and a key advantage for us. We have the characters and the stories people love and yearn for everywhere in the world, in every language.”
However, prior comments from Zaslav revealed that Warner is still chasing the live service bandwagon, the same bandwagon that crashed and burned with Suicide Squad. Alongside the re-launching of MultiVersus, a game that already failed in the past, the company’s gaming output paints a confused picture.
