Nintendo has been evolving the franchise since it first released on Game Boy in 1996. From having single-colored towns to experiencing open-world gameplay, Pokémon fans can't wait for Nintendo to show more of the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A now that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet turn two years old today.

Released on November 18, 2022, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet introduced the first open-world gameplay for the franchise through a single continent called Paldea.

While its predecessors Pokémon Sword and Shield, first introduced the Wild Area, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were the first two titles to feature different storylines that players could progress through as they explored the open-world map.

Although the titles introduced newer mechanics, such as a companion Legendary Pokémon, Pokémon Scarlet, and Violet were the two lowest-scored Pokémon games on Metacritic. This just goes to show that as Nintendo evolved the franchise, it has slowly strayed too far from what made the older titles great.

Despite this, Pokémon fans all over Reddit are celebrating the second anniversary of the newer titles, with many praising the character storylines in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

For newer generations of gamers experiencing Pokémon for the first time, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were their very first titles. They share that two years have passed since they first entered the world of Pokémon.

Veteran players also reminisce about their first Pokémon titles. Given the lack of newer mainline games, Nintendo needs to announce more details about the upcoming Pokémon titles soon.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet may be the franchise's lowest-scoring Pokémon games in terms of critic and user reviews, but Switch 2's backward compatibility may compensate for the games lost due to hardware restrictions.

Who knows, we might see another open-world game after Pokémon Legends: Z-A now that it is confirmed to be in the Kalos region. We at Gfinity look forward to how Nintendo will remake the classic Pokémon titles now that the HD-2D visuals in the recently released Square Enix games have perfectly captured the charm and nostalgia of older games.
